Tips and Tricks for Avoiding COVID-19

Image
Greetings from your blogger,  Wayne Emerson Gregory . You can call me Emerson. Today, I’ll be chiming in on COVID-19, also knowns as Coronavirus, and best practices on preventing its spread. Even though the country is in the process of reopening, we cannot stop being careful with our own health. As a healthcare provider, I’ve seen the devastating effects of this condition, and they’re not pretty. Yes, they can be overcome in many cases, but as always, prevention is key. Some of the more obvious and more commonly shared best practices for protecting yourself from Coronavirus include self-isolation – stay home when possible wearing a mask in public – and make sure it covers your mouth AND NOSE staying at least 6 feet away from others – wearing a mask is not a substitute for social distancing washing your hands often – at least 20 seconds, ensuring you cover all surfaces, the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nail. 4 consequences of stress staying in the body

Historically speaking, stress is a mental and physical state that humans used to navigate threats. In fact, it played a key role in life as stress is responsible for the flight or fight response. When a threat, or stressor, presents itself, the body naturally releases hormones like adrenaline, cortisol, and norepinephrine. These hormones influence the heart to beat faster, the lungs to dilate, the digestive system to slow, and the liver to release more glucose. While these hormones have served vital purposes in evolution, now, they pose a threat to the body. I,  Wayne Emerson Gregory Jr . , have seen firsthand how destructive stress can be when it becomes chronic. Patients who endure stress for long periods no longer receive benefits from the evolutionary response. Rather, sustained stress causes changes to the body which affects daily life in many ways. The following are four consequences that result from prolonged stress. Summer’s here, which is when we need to be extra vigilant about our skincare. There’s the sun’s sweltering rays with all of its ultraviolet radiation, the harmful effects of pollution, and the detrimental impact of chlorine and salt. All of this can be murder on your epidermis, which is the outermost layer of the three layers that make up your skin. Use the right sunscreen for your skin type. It doesn’t take much time for the sun to ravage your skin. Ultraviolet light can damage your skin in as little as 15 minutes, and exposure to the sun is a significant cause of skin cancer. Sunscreen will protect your vulnerable skin from excessive amounts of sunshine. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends a sunscreen with an SBT (Sun Protection Factor) of at least 30. Higher SBF numbers mean better protection. If you have fair skin, sunscreen is doubly essential. Even on overcast days, wear your sunscreen. Even when it’s cloudy, approximately 80% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays

Right now, we are in one of the most unprecedented times in modern history. Nothing quite like the COVID-19 has happened within our lifetime (and hopefully will never happen again). Due to this, everyone from business owners to government officials is scrambling to figure out exactly what needs to be done. This includes reopening schools for students. While this is a tricky topic, many healthcare professionals are now weighing in with concerns about opening too soon and the potential hazards that come with children being exposed to the pandemic. As a medical professional,  Wayne Emerson Gregory Jr.  has studied the data surrounding the onset and spread of the pandemic and feels compelled to weigh in on the matter from a professional, educated standpoint. When Should Schools Actually Reopen? There is no cut and dry answer to this question. No matter what, there w ill be pros and cons with the decisions that must be made. At the end of the day, we are being forced to weigh the health o

Considerations for Patient Privacy in Telehealth

As a healthcare professional, I,  Wayne Emerson Gregory Jr. , have seen first hand how COVID-19 has impacted the patient experience in healthcare. Every day more patients are choosing to pursue telehealth as an alternative to in-person care. COVID-19 has impacted the confidence many people have in simply going out to get food, let alone go to a h  believe telehealth can be highly beneficial.  Telehealth can be the ideal solution to many problem ealthcare facility where people sick with COVID-19 may be present. To combat the unknown in the world, I s if healthcare providers can ensure the process is safe and the patient’s information is secure. For example, many patients in remote areas would need to drive far distances for medical attention. With the use of telehealth, citizens of small communities can get the same
